Jacksonville’s beaches are very wide and clean, and easy to get to. Parking is ample and free in many places. For these reasons, it can be very active with many more people than you might expect out running dogs (legal after five p.m.), playing, swimming, boating, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kite surfing, and skim boarding. Unlike Daytona Beach you cannot drive on Jacksonville Beach.

Oak Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville Florida

We visit the wonderfully landscaped and professionally maintained Oak Lawn Cemetery so Kelly can investigate the graves of her family and ancestors.

Here it is quiet and solemn, but beautiful, clear, and pleasant. Kelly grows quiet as she takes pictures of the special gravestones that mark her relatives final earthly resting places. I wander a row away to give her space and time alone, but she soon makes her way to me for a hug. I am not sad but our connection brings tears to my eyes.

It is a different atmosphere here than on the west coast of Florida like Fort Myers or Sanibel Island, but a nice cheap fun big city offering in Jacksonville Beach especially in the winter.
