how to live, travel and explore the world from your van

Van Camping Travel Budget

June 2010 - 20 day Vanabode Budget
Vehicle - van shown in the book Vanabode how to happily camp, travel and live forever on $20 a day.
Dates traveled: June 2nd 2010 through June 26th 2010
States traveled: Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Canada
Total Miles: 2866
Total spent: fuel, groceries, tolls, ice, 3 nights campground fees, 4 movie tickets, 1 night in a hotel, entrance fees to private game parks and exhibits, shower fees, 4 bottles of wine, ferry ride
Grand Total: for 20 days on the road: $1154
Our daily average spend: $57.70 ($28.85 per person per day)
Daily strict Vanabode average spend: $40.84 ($20.42 per person per day) if you remove the "extras and unnecessary additional expenses" that we incur due to our particular lifestyle but which are not necessary to live and enjoy the trip: movie tickets, wine, extravagant restaurant meals, hotel stays. Note: we traveled an average of 143 miles per day in order to complete this trip on a certain schedule for personal reasons. I recommend no more than 50 miles of travel per day ordinarily and this would have reduced the daily strict Vanabode average spend to less than $14 per person.
