This page from my master list of all Las Vegas articles I wrote while developing Vanabode as the best travel vehicle for cheap easy long term road trips.

Flamingo Las Vegas Wildlife Habitat

Flamingo Las Vegas Wildlife Habitat is a lush tropical paradise located inside the Flamingo Hotel and Casino which is right on the Strip across from Caesar's Palace Hotel. However, if you are not staying at the Flamingo then you just might miss this beautiful habitat that is why we are telling you about it. It is a terrific free attraction for everyone. With a tropical theme of palm trees and large leaf foliage along with the local wildlife it can really transport you for a moment. Because the Wildlife Habitat is just outside of the 28 floor hotel and with the trees there is actually quite a bit of shade.

The 15-acre tropical wildlife habitat is surrounded by waterfalls and lush foliage. It was created to be an authentic environment for the inhabitants so the foliage was imported from different parts of the world so the birds and ducks feel like they belong there. Populating the grounds you will see three types of swans, Mute Swan, Black-Necked Swan, and the Australian Black Swan. There are about nine different species of ducks that swim and waddle throughout. You could see the African Crowned Crane or the Sacred Ibis. Some smaller ground birds are the Gambel's Quail which is native to Las Vegas, as well as two types of Guineafowl, and different pheasants roam in and around the grassy areas and bushes. And, last but not least, the garden habitat is home to the ever popular flock of Chilean Flamingos.

You can enjoy the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat while dining at the Paradise Garden Buffet. This beautiful restaurant view is probably one of the best kept secrets in Las Vegas.

Just beyond The Las Vegas Strip you can see some of the most exotic fish swimming in a variety of lagoons and ponds throughout the habitat. They have the Grass Carp, Albino Channel Catfish, and Japanese Koi. And you can't have streams and waterfalls without water turtles, obviously. But if you visit the Wildlife Habitat in the cooler months you might not see the water turtles because they hibernate underwater for three months.

This is a picture of one of the many waterfalls laced throughout the garden habitat. There are some fantastic photo opportunities here.

The Flamingo Las Vegas Wildlife Habitat literally is an escape from the slot machines and congested streets and casinos on the strip. Once you enter the habitat you will feel like you have been transported to serenity. Relaxing among the tropical plants, the waterfalls and birds you just might not want to leave. There are numerous winding paved pathways so that you can get a closer look at the flamingos and waterfalls. There are a couple of footbridges that cross the streams. There is a memorial to Bugsy Siegel as well. There are several directional stands that dot the paths so you can navigate within the 15 acres. Also, don't forget to pick up a brochure to identify the different species within the habitat. You can keep this brochure too as it is very informative of the different species of birds, fish, and turtles. Benches are scattered throughout the habitat as well so that you can get off your feet to relax and really enjoy seeing the birds interact.

Pictured here while sitting on a bench in the habitat you can see the Australian Black Swan and some Japanese Koi swimming together.

Just beyond the wildlife habitat are multiple pools for the hotel guests. The pool area also has waterfalls and lagoons. There is plenty of room for sunbathing. Towels are complimentary and lounge chairs are on a first come first serve basis. During the summer months the pools in Las Vegas are extremely popular. There are three bars in the pool area for you to stay hydrated. For lunch you can order from either The Beach Club Cafe or Poolside BBQ. The Flamingo Las Vegas has private cabanas for rent that include a TV and mini fridge. With your cabana rental you get a personal host, now that is what I call Las Vegas pool party style. The Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas offers terrific opportunities for all ages from the pool scene to the Flamingo Las Vegas Wildlife Habitat and these are the kinds of places we take advantage of when traveling for nearly nothing all over the country.
