This page from my master list of all Las Vegas articles I wrote while developing Vanabode as the best travel vehicle for cheap easy long term road trips. Mirage Hotel In Las VegasMirage Hotel in Las Vegas - by my friend Kiki Kalor. She is not as huge as the MGM Grand for example, so it's easier to find your room, restaurants and bars. It's a lively and high-energy casino that caters to the young, hip but sophisticated crowd. Clubs, shops and restaurants are trendy. Not every casino is just about gaming and dining. The Mirage offers natural wonders like the dolphin habitat, the white tiger habitat, a volcano, a rain forest and an aquarium. There is so much to do in the Mirage, that it's hard to leave unless you are going for a ride in a gondola at the Venetian or shopping at the Fashion Show Mall, both within walking distance of the casino. In the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, Siegfried and Roy established the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat where you can not only see and learn about the tigers and dolphins in a natural environment, you can interact with the dolphins, even be trainer for the day. The facility is open every day but hours do vary. For an romantic afternoon experience, make a trip to the tropical rain forest. The atrium is filled with misting waterfalls, lagoons, 60-foot palm trees, over 300 orchids and 1,000 plus bromeliads."Cirque du Soleil" shows are prolific in Vegas including the Beatle influenced Love at the Mirage Hotel Las Vegas NV. Over 60 first-class athletes from around the globe perform every night except Tuesday and Wednesday in a theater built specifically for this production. Beatle song selections are woven into a collection of abstract sketches. The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas also has awesome pools and hot tubs. Keeping with the tropical theme of the casino, the pools are surrounded by a jungle of plants and palm trees, a real oasis in the desert. Water winds its way through lagoons and pools and cascades into a walk-in waterfall. You can practically swim in the 12 person hot tub. The best part about the pool is it's open all year around unlike other casinos like Bally's and Mandalay Bay where the pools are seasonal. Repairs do go on in December but otherwise, it's always heated. Trouble is finding a lounge chair, especially in the summer months because it's so popular. Cocktail service is available as well as food and drink in the Paradise Café and the Dolphin Bar. If you are 21 or over, you have the option of sunbathing or wading in the Bare pool. It's a European-style pool (topless) with VIP treatment. That includes icy cucumbers for your eyes, chilled towels, spray water bottles, exotic popsicles and smoothies and much more. Your mojitos and sangrias are served ice cold in special pitchers. The Mirage is one of the strongest hotel casino operations on the strip. It is not the biggest nor is it the oldest but some of the practices put into place by veteran developer Steve Wynn many years ago still hold strong. The biggest industry change came about with the implementation of four walling; the practice of requiring each venue WITHIN the casino to run like its own business, with its own profit and loss strategies and promotional plans. There was a time when the casinos gave nearly everything away for free, from rooms and buffet meals to show tickets and even airfare, just to get people within striking distance of a gambling area. Those days are gone. Now each section must make a profit or be closed and replaced with someone else's idea for making money. It is pure Vegas, an entrepreneurs dream where everybody can get a piece of the mega resort action with a four wall proposal. When I stayed here (Jason Odom) I was put up in a 1,500 square foot super suite, complete with over 100 feet of strip view facing glass, a huge plasma TV that came up out of the floor in front of the bed with the push of a button, an all glass shower and big hot tub. It was the nicest room I have ever stayed in. Request a room that has been renovated and on the highest floor possible for views. They are South Seas themed with elegant furniture. Bathrooms are clean but not too big. Beds are comfortable and room service is prompt and polite. Overview: Hip original hot spot with good balance of rooms & clubs to price A picture of the Atrium at the Mirage Hotel and Casino. The 90-foot high atrium encases a waterfall, bridge, and lots of tropical plants and trees. Entertainment: Cirque du Soleil's magical The Beatles LOVE is supposed to be good though I have not seen it. Danny Gans is gone now so head to Wynn to see him, the man of a million voices.
