Free Off Grid Camping from
The Frugal Shunpikers Guides To RV Boondocking
Boondocking is one of the best ways to have a super fun private
wilderness experience for free. However most cheap camping resources
give you only the big picture...like "go park on millions of acres
of BLM land" or "you can stay outside Vegas in the desert in
the winter". Then along comes Marianne Edwards a fellow
traveler that has been to many of the places I have been. The difference
is she exposes HUNDREDS of additional locations by exact GPS coordinates
where you can have a top level experience for little or no cost. She currently
covers Texas,
New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and California. If you like the places
we went on our last Western
States tour shown in these pictures then get a copy of Vanabode and
a copy
of her guides. This is the very smartest travel investment you can
make.
Above: Outside Canyonlands National Park we used the
Shunpikers
free camping guide for lots of incredibly remote and private FREE camping.
This is EXACTLY one of the spots she lists in her well written guides.
She shows you exactly where to go to get the most for your time
in places like this in her Utah
book.
She offers GREAT detail. Example she doesn't say "go to Coyote
Buttes and Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness Area and camp".
She covers individual spots where you can literally park inside
these places for weeks like, Buckskin Gulch (Slot Canyon Hike), The Wave,
Coyote Buttes, South Coyote Buttes, Petroglyphs and Pictographs, Camping
on House Rock Valley Road, Convenient Dispersed Camping on Hwy 89, and
more places where you can stay weeks to months for FREE! (just move every
ten days or so to a fresh spot under BLM rules)
These books contain Important details like exact GPS coordinates linked
directly to Google maps so you can click and view pictures of the area
as well as other peoples reviews and more. She includes her own pictures
of many of the sites so you can see exactly what you will be close to
and what you will get to experience BEFORE driving in. The locations of,
and directions to, the closest stores for both fuel and food as well as
water and dump stations are included. ESSENTIAL LOCATION SPECIFIC
details like: "you can drive all the way to the end of the road and
park right on the river but the roads are so sandy we could never do it,
better to camp at the big trees by the canyon wall and hike to the river
to swim".
Her books don't just tell you to visit Zion. They explain what size vehicle
can come in on what road at what time of day (NO, not every size RV can
enter Zion going through the tunnel). She explains details like where
to pay for the MANDATORY escort to help drive you in...where to get the
free shuttles, where to park just outside the park for FREE, times to
visit, what to wear, how long the hikes are, and more. These details are
what make your trip utterly life changing rather than just another rushed
"see what everybody else sees" trip.
The fact that we personally took this picture and we were NOT in a helicopter
should tell you something about the size, scope, and sheer magnitude of
this incredible place and this dangerous hike. Those are white buses on
that road down there. That road is where we started this hike. That road
is where 97% of the visitors stay. With Marianne Edwards books you too
can have extraordinary experiences in very specific places on a micro
budget. Many parts of the famous places she shows you are completely free
(if you go where she shows you). I recommend The
Frugal Shunpikers Guides To RV Boondocking.
